Style Queen? – Not Quite

by Paul Smith on January 21, 2011

Helena Bonham Carter at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. She’s not going to be featured on the best-dressed list, but you’ve got to love Helena Bonham-Carter’s sense of individuality – if not her sense of style.

The King’s Speech star arrived at the Golden Globe Awards in a multi-colored Vivienne Westwood dress, bird’s-nest hair and different-colored shoes – one red and one green!

Helena doesn’t care what people think of what she wears. “Why does it matter?” She says that there are too many awards shows and feels that they’ve been hijacked by the fashion industry.

But I’m sure there’s one award she’d love to take home – the Academy Award. Nominations are announced next week and The King’s Speech is expected to be a hot contender for Best Picture.

Hollywood Glamour at the Burlesque Premiere

by Paul Smith on November 17, 2010

Superstars Cher and Christina Aguilera looked great at the Los Angeles premiere of their movie “Burlesque.”

Christina, who will be 30 in December, wore a bright turquoise green strapless Elie Saab gown that was very much old Hollywood. While 64 year-old Cher chose a sparkling black mini with lace sleeves.

In the movie, Christina plays Ali – a small-town girl with a big voice who follows her dream to L.A. After stumbling upon The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theatre that is home to an inspired musical revue, Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess (Cher), the club’s proprietor and headliner. Burlesque’s outrageous costumes and bold choreography enrapture the young ingenue, who vows to perform there one day.

Of course, she eventually makes her way from the bar to the stage and her spectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to it’s former glory. And that’s Hollywood!
